The Best Flowers for Father’s Day

The Best Flowers for Father’s Day

With Father’s Day coming up this weekend, there’s still time to find the perfect gift to honor your father, grandfather or father figure. As tempting as it is to buy him another tie or pair of socks, the truth is that he really doesn’t need more of these mundane gifts. Most dads buy what they need when they need it, which is what makes them so hard to shop for. That’s why we recommend a bouquet of flowers – not only will it brighten his day, but it’s universally appreciated!

When it comes to buying flowers for Father’s Day, we recommend either bright, colorful arrangements or more soothing, organic bouquets depending on his personal taste. Remember, men deserve flowers, too!

The History of Father’s Day

We can thank a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd for proposing the idea of Father’s Day in 1910 as a means of honoring her father, Mr. William Smart. Mother’s Day already existed at that point, and Father’s Day caught on quickly as the male parent equivalent. The first Father’s Day took place on June 19, 1910 and it has been celebrated on the third Sunday of June ever since in the United States. Many countries around the world also recognize Father’s Day, though the dates of their celebrations vary.

Celebrate Dad with These Popular Flowers

Not sure where to start with picking out flowers for your dad? Try some of these beautiful varieties!

1. Sunflowers

Sunflowers are a cheery representation of the warm weather in June and a favorite of many dads. This classic flower represents loyalty and adoration, but we think it’s their association with the sun and big, beautiful faces that makes them so beloved. Bouquets like Sunny Side will light up any room and put a smile on your dad’s face.

2. Orange Roses

Unless your dad is a big fan of pink, you'll probably want to steer clear of pink roses due to the romantic associations with that flower. Instead, we recommend orange roses of all types -- spray, garden, or our premium roses. Check out our Sorbet and Monarch bouquets, which are cut to order and specially treated so that they last for weeks.

3. Green Garden Roses

As peaceful as a summer Sunday, our light green garden roses embrace the lushness of the season without being too over the top or feminine. They not only have unique crinkly petals, but they have more petals than a standard rose, creating a full, impressive bouquet. Our green garden roses bouquets like Freshly Squeezed are a rare sight -- their unique appearance is hard to find outside Ecuador!

4. Colorful Mixed Bouquet

So, your dad loves color. We do, too. Fortunately, our artisan florists have handcrafted numerous bouquets brimming with the season's most vibrant blooms to bring joy to your doorstep. Take a look at Nectar and Heirloom -- both beautiful and colorful choices for Father's Day.

5. Red Roses

For a dramatic touch, nothing beats red roses. Their timeless elegance never goes out of style, plus they are linked to the forgotten history of Father's Day. At the very first Father's Day celebration, daughters gave red roses to their dads. All the children also wore red roses that day if their father was living and white roses if he was deceased. Honor this tradition by gifting your dad with a luxurious red rose bouquet like Captivate or The Avalon.

We can all agree that our dads deserve a little extra attention on their big day. A beautiful bouquet of our eco-friendly flowers will not only show how much you appreciate him, but they'll also last for weeks when taken care of, extending his holiday.

Happy Father's Day from Botania!
